Privacy Policy

Effective date: 14 July 2026

Cutline does not collect your data. Your videos, audio, and captions never leave your Mac. There are no accounts, no analytics, no trackers, and no ads. Transcription and rendering happen entirely on your device.

That's the whole policy in three sentences. The rest just spells it out.

What we collect

Nothing. Cutline has no sign-in, no user accounts, and no analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not collect your name, email, location, device identifiers, or usage data. We have no servers that receive your content.

Your videos and audio

Everything you do with your media stays on your Mac:

• Transcription runs locally using a bundled speech model (WhisperKit / Whisper on Apple's Neural Engine). Your audio is never uploaded.
• Editing happens locally in the app.
• Rendering composites captions into your video locally. The exported file is written straight to the folder you choose.

At no point is your video, audio, or caption text sent to us or to any third party.

Where your data lives

All Cutline data lives in macOS's standard sandboxed app container at ~/Library/Containers/com.cutlineapp.cutline/. This includes your recent projects, saved caption styles, custom fonts, and trial state. None of it is transmitted anywhere; only you and the Cutline app can read it.

Network requests

• Apple StoreKit — when you purchase the Cutline unlock or restore a previous purchase. Apple processes the transaction; we never see or store your card details or billing information.
• Optional language-pack download — English works offline out of the box. Only if you choose to install the multilingual language pack does the app download a model file from a third-party model host. This is a one-time download of software to your Mac — none of your video, audio, or caption text is uploaded.
• Translation languages — if you add a translated subtitle track, macOS downloads that language's model (managed by the operating system). Your caption text is translated on-device; nothing is sent to us.

No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting to third parties, no advertising networks.

Children

Cutline is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages. Because the app collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and revise the effective date above. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
